Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?
Interesting question. Obviously I want readers to read my books. But I see some authors coming out with a formula book (read: any Hallmark movie plot) every couple months, and I can’t imagine doing that just to get a book out there.

#lwlinterview – #holidayromance Author Amber Daulton Talks Publishing and Writing

Hey, romance addicts. Amber Daulton is back with another great book and interview. She joins us to share her writing process and a new Valentine’s adventure romance, My Valentine’s Adventure.
Amber Daulton is the author of the romantic-suspense series Arresting Onyx and several
standalone novellas. Her books are published through The Wild Rose Press, Books to Go Now,
and Daulton Publishing, and are available in e-book, print on demand, audio, and foreign language
formats. She lives in North Carolina with her husband and demanding cats.

Welcome, Amber.
How did publishing your first book change your writing process?
Boy, is that a loaded question! I’d modeled my style after what I was reading, only to learn with my first publisher that passive voice and head hopping are now frowned upon. I would love to go back in time and tell myself to do more research into grammar and writing style, and not to read so many romance books written in the 1990s and earlier. The writing and publishing guidelines have changed over the years, and what was accepted back then is no longer accepted now, as least for beginners without a huge following.

#bookreview Guarding His Midnight Witness

Hey, romance addicts. It’s been a minute since I had the time to review a book, but I have one for you guys!
Art, law enforcement and organized crime, who could want anything more? In Guarding His Midnight Witness, Anna J Stewart offers readers a respectable romantic suspense with the usual suspects and elements layered with stable and quirky characters.

Artist Greta is struggling with a creative block making painting impossible. So what does she do? Why, the only thing possible. Cooped up in a loft with her mind whizzing and creative juices not flowing, she takes to sipping tea, petting her cat and spying the neighborhood. Only thing is, she gets more than what she bargains for when she witnesses a murder, or at least she thinks she saw one. No, she did, right?
Author Interrupted – Dealing with Distractions
#openbook
What are your top three distractions and how do you deal with them?
Note: I am writing this post on the road. Please forgive any typos.
A writer’s life is full of all kinds of distractions, which can make finding the time to develop ideas and getting out of one’s head and onto paper (or the screen) difficult. I have mentioned that time management can be an external factor hindering writing.
Damn those twenty-four hours in a day. They just won’t listen and become more. Authors have professional (novel writing is not the main source of income for most) and personal lives, each demanding energy and time. Finding sufficient time to develop a plot, construct character arcs and write content can be difficult. One cruel irony is that creative often burgeons when there is no time. Authors scramble to find a moment to weave a story, but frustration usually sets in when the brilliance blazing in their minds flickers into embers because that’s how it often works. Write right now or risk losing everything.

#MFRW- Just Kick The Bucket

Bucket Lists - Have or Have Not
Note- I am traveling and working from my phone. Please have mercy in my typos.
Many would argue that a life without goals is a wasted one. We constantly set achievements for ourselves, striving to make our dreams come to fruition. We attain some while others stay out of our reach.
Setting goals can range from the sensible to outlandish. It is up to the individual to asses the viability of a goal and if they will pursue it. A good goal-setting metric is the S.M.A.R.T approach, which encourages one to critically discern the potential for success by determining of a goal is 1) specific, 2) measurable, 3) attainable, 4)relevant, and 5) time bound.
Did I suck all of the fun if an idea of a bucket list yet? Good. Continue reading “#MFRW- Just Kick The Bucket”

Sweet Love Bitter Fruit Cover Reveal Recap
Sometimes, awesomeness prevails no matter what life throws your way. I am so happy that the cover reveal for the soon-to-be-released novel, Sweet Love-Bitter Fruit [Brothers in Law Book 2] went so well despite some hectic stuff thrown my way.
I had planned ahead and arranged for some fantastic posts and lives with authors and reviewers. Unfortunately, Papa Bear and his cubs had their demands for me, and I found myself rushing around Long Island while authors and readers had a blast with the event. I made sure to let everyone know early in the day about what my beloved husband sprung on me.
Then we were off, starting with a fabulous live interview with author and life coach Halimah DeOliveira. Continue reading “Sweet Love Bitter Fruit Cover Reveal Recap”
#OpenBook: Sleep-No Substitutes or Exchanges

#OpenBook – If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?
Sleep is a beautiful thing with a ton of benefits, including:
- May Help Prevent Cancer. …
- Reduces Stress. …
- Reduces Inflammation. …
- Makes You More Alert. …
- Improves Your Memory. …
- May Help You Lose Weight. …
- Napping Makes You “Smarter” …
- May Reduce Your Risk of Depression…
- Helps Body Repair Itself… [source: VeryWellHealth]
Yeah, yeah. I know. The question’s premise is that sleep is not necessary. That’s the thing, though. I need to sleep. It’s one of the best things in life that I get to do.
I haven’t been able to sleep for more than four hours since my oldest child was born. My babies snatched my sleep from me, and it looks like a solid six hours will never return. So, I have had to adjust my sleep to be able to still partake in and enjoy it. I started napping in the afternoon to make up for lost sleep. I hit my bedchamber [yup, I’m going archaic] and dare anybody to interrupt my daytime snooze. Continue reading “#OpenBook: Sleep-No Substitutes or Exchanges”
