Character Journal – Waiting For An Author to Write

#openbook

Dear Diary. Write a diary entry or a letter from your character's point of view.

Hah! I love it. Baaz, you’re up!

Okay, Lyndell. Hi, romance addicts. I am Baaz Hamdi, the main character in Lyndell’s crime romance, Sealed by Love, Trapped in Sin, soon-to-be-released by After Hours Publications.

I’m not thrilled about opening up my personal thoughts to the world, but Lyndell is the boss. So, here we go.

Journal Entry Date: 5/16/2021

It’s been a while since I’ve had the chance to reflect and write down my thoughts and experiences. My author was sidetracked again and had me stuck in a love scene for almost a week.

Don’t get me wrong; I enjoyed the position she left my love interest and me in, but it became too much of a good thing. I was relieved when she finally got us to the next point in our romance journey.

Lyndell Williams is a talented writer. My wife, Rahmah has been in other books written by Lyndell. She made sure that I knew, going into our story, that there would be times the author would have to put our tale of fighting the odds for love to the side and fulfill the other demands of her life.

Hold on a sec.

Yes? Really?

Ugh! Excuse me. I’ll be right back.

Journal Entry Date: 5/19/21

See what I mean? I couldn’t even get back to this journal for days because a bunch of things dropped into Lyndell’s lap. Her editor hit her up to review an article. The school needed forms. She had to do the family taxes. The kids, husband, friends … it’s always something!

Last week, one of the other authors on the blog hop decided to try and sidetrack her by spewing a bunch on non-sequiturs and bigoted nonsense. They almost had her, but she decided not to jeopardize her peace of mind and writing flow for the rantings of some rando. My story is the better for it.

Lyndell wrote about the external pressures on authors in another post and offered advice on managing one’s time better. She needs to practice what she preaches more.

Anyway, she got my story finished. I’m getting closer to having readers enjoy my happily-ever-after with Rahmah. I’m excited because we are her first organized crime romance.

Lyndell is working on more stuff: An episodic paranormal and book four of the Brothers in Law series.

As long as she dedicates time, and shuts out the world, Layla Writes Love stories will be just fine.

Writers must honor their craft by making sure the people around them don’t stomp on their creativity by making overwhelming demands or cutting fools.

Now, onto manuscript revisions and editing. Wait … No, Lyndell … Don’t take that out … I sound so deep. Gotta go!

  1. Back in the olden days, before cell phones, when long-distance calls cost an arm and a leg, it once took me over a week to write a letter to my mother. I’d write a paragraph or two and then get distracted. 🙂

      1. Yep. And with the advances in technology, I can call my computer-phobic mother on a special device that makes video calls (and that’s it!) and we can see each other while we talk..
